Ceer, Saudi Arabia’s first electric vehicle (EV) brand, has struck a SAR543 million ($145 million) deal with Italy’s Sabelt to develop sports seats for its upcoming flagship E sedan and SUV models.
The drivers will get the same seats as those in high-performance sports cars.
Sabelt will create high-performance seats for Ceer, ensuring maximum protection, comfort, and superior efficiency in extreme conditions.
Designed to combine safety, comfort, and aesthetics, the seats will feature an integrated belt system (ABTS) within a metal structure and an exceptionally low H-point, ideal for sports cars.
In June 2024, Ceer signed a SAR8.2 billion contract with South Korea’s Hyundai Transys for the supply of EV drive systems, which will significantly reduce size and weight while enhancing power efficiency.
Last March, the EV major awarded a SAR5 billion contract to construct a manufacturing complex in King Abdullah Economic City.
Ceer is a joint venture between the kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund, and Taiwan’s Foxconn.
The first local EVs are scheduled to be available this year.
Meanwhile, Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman named the cluster for automotive manufacturing activities within King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) as King Salman Automotive Cluster, state-run Saudi Press Agency reported.
Besides Ceer, the cluster will house Lucid Motors and host several PIF joint projects with global manufacturers, including Hyundai Motor and Pirelli.
The cumulative GDP contribution from companies operating in King Salman Automotive Cluster is expected to reach SAR92 billion by 2035.
